Swot Up On Your Cycling for Sport Relief
A host of celebrities are gearing up to inspire the nation to take to their bikes for this year’s Sport Relief. Not only is Sport Relief enthusiast David Walliams in the middle of leading a whole pack of celebrity friends from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a nonstop cycle relay but Lawrence Dallaglio is taking on a feat of his own, cycling 2,800km from Rome to Edinburgh to raise money for charity.
With thousands of Britons showing their support for the cause and taking on their own cycle challenges, road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist want to make sure that everyone has swotted up on their road safety. For many years GEM has been a supporter of safer cycling campaigns and today, more than ever, the organisation not only want to encourage greater use of bicycles wherever possible, but also want to warn drivers and cyclists alike to be more aware of safety on the roads.
In view of the anticipated increase in cyclists on the road during Sport Relief and after Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton’s recent tumble off her bike, GEM is encouraging people to take a look at their comprehensive road safety leaflet, ‘The Guide To Safer Cycling’ that anyone can order free of charge or download from the GEM website at www.motoringassist.com. The leaflet includes all kinds of useful cycling information about safety, as well as commuting, buying a bicycle, cycling holidays, maintenance and legal advice.
David Williams, CEO of GEM comments, “What these celebrities and the British public are doing to help make a difference is extremely admirable. Whilst everyone is out having fun and doing their bit to raise money for some great causes, we do not want people to forget the fact that the roads can be a dangerous place. It is important to be aware of the measures that can be taken to ensure we are as safe as possible. GEM is committed to ensuring the cycling experience is as safe and enjoyable as possible, particularly during Sport Relief, and that’s why it is so important that cyclists are always in full control. They must also remember that when on the public road, they are part of a complex traffic system and all rules must be obeyed. From a David Williams to a David Walliams, we wish you all the very best of luck with your fundraising!”
