What personal information is collected?

GEM Motoring Assist are unable to provide you with our products or services if you do not provide certain information to us, therefore we collect the following information from you when you take out membership or breakdown cover on the website or over the phone: name, address, email, phone numbers, date of birth, additional member names and date of birth, bank or payment card details. We use a third party specialist secure card processing provider when taking payments and we do not hold your card details after payment authorisation.

When you join GEM, we allocate a membership number to you, which is stored alongside your personal information.

We also collect personal information when you complete a form or use live chat on our website and when you enter a competition, promotion or complete a survey.

We use tags and cookies to collect and track data on people browsing our website. This data includes basic information such as your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views and website navigation. Most browsers allow you to reject all or some cookies. We cannot identify you from this information.

We also collect data that helps us to measure the interest and response to our emails so that we can learn which emails you find interesting and engaging.

GEM Motoring Assist uses your personal information to administer your GEM membership, to improve the GEM Motoring Assist website for mutual benefit, to fulfil your requests for products and services, to contact you about new products and services, to gain feedback from you on our products and services and to contact you with a reminder after your membership has lapsed.

We may also study this information to form a view on what we think you may want or need, or what may be of interest to you, to help us identify and develop new or improved products and services.

Those processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so.You are responsible for safeguarding the password that you use on your ‘My GEM’ account to access your membership information on the GEM website, and you agree not to disclose your password to any third party.

You are responsible for any activity using your Account, whether or not you authorised that activity. You should immediately notify us of any unauthorised use of your Account.
