GEM club membership
Includes our exclusive quarterly magazine which is packed with motoring and lifestyle articles, competitions, vehicle road tests and much more. All our members also receive access to free road safety advice, technical advice, plus specially selected member benefits and discounts such as car insurance, home insurance, travel insurance, car hire, airport parking and much more.
Roadside assistance
If you breakdown more than a quarter of a mile from home we will carry out emergency repairs to get you going, otherwise we will recover the vehicle to the nearest suitable garage which is able to undertake the repair the same working day. If neither are possible we will recover you to a UK destination of your choice.
Nationwide recovery
If we are unable to arrange for a repair of your vehicle at or close to the breakdown scene we will recover you, the vehicle and the passengers to any one UK destination of your choice.
Home assistance
If your vehicle will not start or breaks down at or within a quarter of a mile of your home we will either repair it there or if that is not possible take it to the nearest suitable garage. If choosing Recovery RECLAIM please note we will only cover the cost of a recovery up to 10 miles.
Onward travel
If you break down more than 25 miles from home and repairs can’t be carried out that day we can assist with onward travel or overnight accommodation up to the value of £200.

How long has GEM Motoring Assist been in existence?
Originally founded in 1932, the organisation has been arranging breakdown cover since 1978.
Do you cover the member or the vehicle?
We cover you as the member if you are personally driving any eligible vehicle or are travelling as a passenger in an eligible vehicle owned by you.
Am I covered as a passenger?
We only cover you as a passenger if you are travelling in a vehicle owned by you and that is covered under our terms and conditions. Please also see eligible vehicle information below.
What are eligible vehicles?
Private cars or motorcycles, Vans with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) up to 2500 kgs, Motorhomes/campervans with a GVW up to 3500 kgs which do not exceed 7 metres/23 feet in length or 2.3 metres/7 feet 7 inches in width (including any extra fitments). If in doubt, please check the terms and conditions.
Please note we DO NOT cover Vans with a GVW over 2500kgs.
Will my caravan or trailer be covered?
Any caravan (up to 7 metres/23 feet long, not including the length of the a-frame or hitch) or trailer (up to 3.05 metres/10 feet long including any load, not including the length of the a-frame or hitch) attached to the broken down vehicle will be recovered with the vehicle. In the event of a breakdown to the caravan or trailer being towed by the vehicle, we will recover it to the nearest suitable garage or your preferred destination if closer. Any caravan or trailer must be attached using a standard 50 millimetre (2 inch) towing coupling.
What is the difference between Recovery EXTRA and Recovery RECLAIM?
Designed to provide comprehensive cover at the lowest possible cost, our pay-and-reclaim option offers the same cover as Recovery EXTRA, but the member pays the attending garage when assistance or recovery has been completed. The member then reclaims this cost and any travel or accommodation charges as appropriate, from GEM Motoring Assist. With Recovery RECLAIM members may make their own arrangements for assistance and recovery and reclaim the appropriate costs by completing a claim form and submitting relevant receipts.
When is the earliest I can be covered?
The earliest we can cover you from is midnight of the day after purchase or from a date you specify up to 2 months in advance.
How quickly will I get assistance?
Our 24 hour Rescue Control Centre will quickly arrange assistance from one of a nationwide network of over 446+ approved independent recovery operators. We aim to have an operator with you in less than 45 minutes.
