GEM puts Blue Light Aware resource in the limelight at Young Driver Focus

We will be showcasing our ‘Blue Light Aware’ road safety resource at this week’s Young Driver Focus event in London.

GEM is the main sponsor of the event, which this year will examine the role technology can play in helping to keep young drivers safe.

The Blue Light Aware resource was designed to assist drivers by helping them identify solutions to a number of traffic scenarios involving emergency vehicles where confusion is frequently reported. Through the use of short video animations, GEM presents 10 common situations where confusion occurs. There are sections on roundabouts, junctions, country lanes, motorways and dual carriageways, as well as specific advice for helping to maximise safety for those who need to work in potentially dangerous road environments.

GEM chief executive Neil Worth said: “We are proud of ‘Blue Light Aware’, a resource we revised in 2020. The revision followed extensive consultation with the emergency services and led to the production of video animations to illustrate specific situations where drivers could be confused or at higher risk.

“We have now coordinated a number of social media campaigns using the new videos – with excellent levels of engagement and many worthwhile conversations.
