Road safety and breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist has been recognised with a special award from Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death), celebrating a decade of partnership and shared commitment to safer roads.

The award was formally presented to GEM Chairman Lee Puffett at the Project EDWARD Parliamentary reception on Monday 8 December.

In announcing the award, the Project EDWARD team paid tribute to GEM’s vital early support for the initiative. When the original idea of a “European Day Without A Road Death” was first proposed, GEM provided the essential funding and encouragement that enabled the landmark event in 2016 to take place.

That first campaign laid the foundation for 10 years of effective engagement and advocacy aimed at reducing death and serious injury on Europe’s roads.

Project EDWARD changed its name to ‘Every Day Without A Road Death’ in 2020, since when GEM has continued to provide financial support, as well as helping to promote evidence-based actions and practical solutions for improving road safety across the UK and beyond.

Lee Puffett, Chairman of GEM Motoring Assist, said: “It is a tremendous honour to receive this award from Project EDWARD. GEM has always believed in the power of collaboration to make our roads safer, and we are proud to have played a role in supporting an initiative that has achieved so much over the past decade.’’

“This recognition is a tribute to every GEM member who shares our commitment to saving lives and promoting responsible use of the roads.”
